Best Homemade Vanilla Iced Coffee: McDonald’s Inspired

McDonald’s really hit the nail on the head with their iced coffees. I tried it for the first time a while ago when I went there with my bother and I am pretty much obsessed.

As per usual, this led me to being hauled up in the kitchen trying to make a coffee drink that can compete with that. I think I might have succeeded and I am very excited to share the recipe with you.

  1. Coffee grounds
  2. 1 ½ cup milk
  3. Ice cubes
  4. 1 tablespoon vanilla syrup

Some Ideas About the Ingredients

Is an Espresso Machine Necessary?

If you don’t have a fancy coffee machine it is not a problem. Both a Moka pot and an AeroPress does the job well by making espresso-like coffee. I prefer an AeroPress, but that is really a matter of personal preference.

(Here is a post about the differences between an AeroPress and a Moka pot.)

You can also try instant espresso, there are some really great brands out there that you can try out. Just don’t use French press or drip machine coffee. They do make nice and strong coffee, but it’s a bit far from espresso and won’t give you the same effect.

What Type of Milk Should I Use?

I prefer dairy milk, but if you don’t or can’t consume regular cow’s milk, you can always try your favorite milk alternative. There are many options out there for you to choose from, but you probably already know that.

So, try making this drink with your favorite dairy alternative and if you don’t like it try another kind.

Syrup: Homemade or Store-Bought?

Honestly, I don’t discriminate when it comes to this. Sometimes I like to make my own, but other times I simply don’t have the time to make it myself. In those cases I go for the ones that I got at my local grocery store.

If you do want to make it yourself, you can use my vanilla syrup recipe, it is really good.
