I don’t know about you, but I love the winter. Very few things in life top curling up with a good book while enjoying a cup of fresh coffee. To top it all off, Starbucks has a coffee blend that is the perfect complement to any cold winter day; their winter blend.
This medium roast whole bean coffee is a seasonal coffee blend. They release it every year when those frosty nights of winter start approaching.
It is 100% Arabica coffee that is a mix of Latin American beans and beans from the Asia/Pacific region. It is sold as whole beans and not as ground coffee.
So, unfortunately, you would have to grind it yourself. However, I don’t really see this as a downside. I have grown quite fond of grinding my beans myself. You can also ask the barista at your local Starbucks to grind it for you when you buy it.
I haven’t yet encountered the Winter blend in the form of coffee pods. So, if you prefer using coffee pods, you can always use a reusable K-Cup.
Of course, this will only work if you have a Keurig coffee machine. This also kind of defeats the practicality of using pods, but it is an option if you want to use your machine for this coffee.
However, you can also consider other brewing methods such as a French press, Moka pot, or AeroPress.
I will talk about your brewing method options in a second.
This blend promises a smooth cup of coffee with a round, nutty flavor. It also contains some rich, earthy notes. The medium roast level gives it a wonderfully balanced taste.
When and Where Can You Get It?
Sadly, you can only get these great coffee beans once a year. It is, however, when it is on the shelves, available online and in-store.
Starbucks’ winter blend coffee is released in new packaging every year. Which, makes it almost a limited edition collectors’ item.
You can brew this coffee in the exact same way as you would any other coffee. Like with all coffee, there is no “perfect way” there is only perfect for you.
I absolutely love my espresso machine, so these days that is my go-to. However, I also quite like coffee made in a French press or MokaPot.
Final Thoughts: What is Winter Blend Coffee?
Because of its seasonality, Starbucks’ winter blend is extra special. It is a delicacy that you have to wait for the entire year. Quite exciting, don’t you think? Just one more reason to get excited for the holidays.
