Delicious Peppermint White Chocolate Mocha Recipe

There are certain things that are simply associated with a certain time of year. One of these combinations is the holiday season and peppermint flavor.

Coffee shops all over stock specialty coffees for the sake of the holiday spirit. One of these coffee drinks is a peppermint white chocolate mocha.

This drink is quite wonderful and the best of all is that you can make it at home at a fraction of the cost. Seems like a great idea to me.

Ingredients for a White Peppermint Mocha

This coffee is actually quite easy to make with simple ingredients. Here is a list of the ingredients needed:

  1. Coffee grounds
  2. 1 tbsp peppermint white chocolate sauce/syrup
  3. ¾ cup milk of choice
  4. Peppermint flavored topping (optional)

Thoughts About the Coffee

I absolutely love using my espresso machine to make coffee. However, I know that not everyone has one of those.

Coffee made with a moka pot or an AeroPress is quite close to espresso and is a great option.

Something else that you can do is to make instant espresso. I know that there are many people who are against it. But I have found that Nescafé’s instant espresso is actually quite close to the real thing.

I just don’t recommend using, for example a French press or drip coffee machine for the coffee. It does make strong coffee, but it is not as concentrated as espresso. So, the result won’t be the same.

Peppermint White Mocha Syrup

I like to make my own coffee syrup. This, of course, includes white chocolate mocha syrup. The recipe that I use is really simple and only uses two ingredients.

White chocolate mocha sauce in a mason jar.

These ingredients are white chocolate chips or pieces of a white chocolate bar melted into milk. I gave detailed steps to make white mocha syrup in my post about it.

To make it peppermint flavored just add a teaspoon of peppermint extract/essence.

A Note On The Milk

I prefer whole milk because it steams better than others. However, there is nothing that says you have to stick to it.

You can even opt for non-dairy milk such as almond milk, coconut milk, or oat milk.

Topping Ideas

There are many things that you can use to make your white chocolate peppermint mocha pretty.

I used peppermint chocolate and mint leaves. Another option would be to use peppermint candy cane broken into pieces.

You could also make peppermint syrup by adding a teaspoon of peppermint extract and green food coloring to simple syrup. Then you drizzle it on top of your drink.

Even though this is a white mocha, you can always top it off with dark chocolate curls to give your drink some extra color.

Steps For a Peppermint White Chocolate Mocha

Here are the steps to make peppermint white mocha.

1. Make Coffee

Pull one shot of espresso.

2. Mix the Coffee and Syrup

Add a tablespoon of peppermint white chocolate syrup for every 8oz of coffee/shot of espresso.

3. Froth The Milk

Froth a cup of milk using your favorite methods. For example a handheld milk frother or a steam wand. Next, pour the frothed milk on the syrup and coffee mix.

4. Add Toppings to Taste

When I made mine I simply sprinkled over some peppermint chocolate. However, you can precede it with whipped cream and top it off with something like candy cane pieces in the spirit of the holidays.

As I mentioned, you can actually go crazy with this recipe. Here are some other ideas, other than toppings, that you can try to make sure that your cup of coffee is the perfect drink for you.

Vanilla syrup in a small glass bowl.

Vanilla Syrup

Vanilla compliments the taste of the white chocolate. Try adding some vanilla syrup to your drink.

Add Some Whipped Cream

Why not take some heavy whipping cream and make this drink a little creamier?

No one ever days that you have to stick to warm beverages in the holidays, did they?

You can enjoy a peppermint white mocha as a hot beverage or transform it into a glass of iced mocha by adding ice.

Brewing Method

I mentioned earlier that you don’t have to use espresso to make this drink.

Other than the moka pot or instant espresso, you can also experiment with different brewing methods. Cold brew coffee can work great for this recipe, especially if you are in the mood for iced coffee.

You’ll just have to use less milk and also not heat/steam it.
