Best Homemade Peppermint Marshmallow Latte Recipe

Peppermint is one of the most famous Christmas flavors. Adding some espresso and a few marshmallows makes for the perfect coffee drink for the cold winter’s nights surrounding Christmas.

I really love this drink because it is rich and creamy and perfect. And I really hope that you end up loving it as much as I do.

Ingredients for a Peppermint Marshmallow Latte

  1. Coffee grounds
  2. 1 cup milk of choice
  3. 1 tbsp peppermint syrup
  4. Mini marshmallows
  5. Whipped cream (optional)
  6. Crushed peppermint sweets (optional)

What Coffee is Best?

I really like Starbucks’s Pike Place Roast. However, if you are in the mood for a dark roast, Starbucks’s Caffè Verona Blend is also really good.

What if I Don’t Have an Espresso Machine?

You don’t need an espresso machine for this recipe. You can also use an AeroPress or Moka pot to make the coffee.

If, however, you don’t have either of those, you can also go for instant espresso. Nescafé’s instant espresso is quite good.

I really don’t recommend using French press coffee, drip machine coffee or anything similar to those. I know that all these methods can give you a strong cup of coffee. The thing is, they don’t make coffee as concentrated as espresso. So, the result won’t be the same.

What Milk is Best?

I don’t think that there is one kind of milk that is best. You can really use whatever milk you normally use.

I like whole milk, because it results in a creamy cup of coffee. However, in this recipe, the cream already makes the coffee quite rich. So, using low-fat milk or skim milk might also be a good idea.

Dairy Alternatives

You don’t even have to stick to dairy. You can, of course, also go for your favorite milk alternative.

Examples of milk that you can try include soy milk, almond milk or oat milk.

Frothing the Milk

If you don’t have an espresso machine with a steam wand, it is not a problem at all. A handheld frother, mason jar or even French press will do the job.

However, for this recipe you actually don’t need any of those. Because we are using whipped cream, you can actually get away with simply popping the milk in the microwave for about a minute.

What Peppermint Syrup is Best?

You can either use store-bought peppermint syrup or you can make your own.

It is really simple to make your own peppermint syrup. Simply make simple syrup and add a teaspoon of peppermint extract.

Variations on a Peppermint Marshmallow Latte

You can spice up this drink to your heart’s desire. Here are some examples of what you can try.

Peppermint Marshmallow Mocha

Simply use peppermint mocha syrup instead of normal peppermint syrup. You can also drizzle some of the syrup on top of the drink.

Leave Out the Whipped Cream

Although the whipped cream adds a nice touch to the drink, it does add quite a few calories to the drink.

Leaving it out will still leave you with an amazing coffee drink.
