Best Orange Juice Espresso Recipe: Viral TikTok Drink

Social media has found its way into almost all parts of our lives. There are so many new ideas surfacing on all of the platforms every day and this time, a new coffee trend emerged. This coffee drink is called orange juice espresso.

Today I have decided to try out this viral drink for the first time.

I’m quite excited to try out this unusual drink. I have always loved orange juice and the addition of espresso, albeit a bit of a weird combination, sounds quite divine. Because let’s face it, most things espresso-related are pretty amazing.

The actual original TikTok video doesn’t contain any amounts, but I’ll give you the ratios that I use to make life easier for you. But to be honest how much orange juice in relation to espresso coffee you use is a matter of personal preference. I recommend starting with my amounts and then adjusting it to your taste.

So, let’s get started, you might just find that your morning routine will be forever changed by the combination of coffee and an espresso shot.

Ingredients for Orange Juice Espresso

  1. Coffee grounds
  2. 1½ cup orange juice
  3. Ice cubes

Some Notes About the Ingredients

Do I Need an Espresso Machine?

Nope, you can totally make this with coffee that has been made with a Moka pot or AeroPress. Instant coffee can also work if you use only one ounce of water. You could also try using cold brew concentrate.

Other coffee, such as French press and drip machine coffee, might not work quite as well. That kind of coffee is not as concentrated as the above kinds of coffee.

Which Coffee Beans are Best?

I like a medium roast for making espresso. However, the coffee beans you use really is a matter of personal preference.

Many people recommend a dark roast for this drink. However, I’m not convinced of that theory. I think that that balanced taste of a medium roast works super well. It complements the sweetness of the orange juice.

If the orange juice is a bit on the sour side, I don’t feel that the bitterness of the espresso cancels that out as many claims a darker roast does. It simply complicates the taste.

The Kind of Orange Juice

The type of orange juice that you use is up to you. Fresh orange juice has a really soft spot in my heart, but sometimes it is not quite as easy to come by. So, I quite often go for the normal orange juice that you get at the grocery store. It is still amazing.

Soda Water Variation

Of course, you can try adding some extra ingredients to your drink. One of these ingredients is soda water (also known as seltzer water). It adds a fun twist to this drink with some fizzy bubbles. Simply reduce the orange juice to 1 cup and add ½ cup of soda water.

I guess this version of the drink is quite similar to a spritzy Americano.

Cold Brew Recipes

There are many ways to make cold brew. The traditional way takes quite a while (about 12-24 hours). However, you can also make it using an AeroPress. Then it only takes a few minutes.

I prefer the AeroPress cold brew recipe, but many people feel that the traditional method is better. If you want to use the traditional method, it is super easy to make cold brew with a French press.
