My morning routine is quite fixed. Two of the very important parts are, of course, a cup of coffee and a smoothie. These days my favorite of all my smoothie recipes is that of a coffee banana smoothie.
I really like this smoothie, because not only is it really easy to make, but all of the ingredients are also healthy.
I think that this is the perfect way to make a busy morning less rushed. In fact, if I know that I won’t have a lot of time in the morning, I make this delicious smoothie the night before and store it in the fridge.
The ingredients for my coffee banana smoothie recipe are:
- 1 cup milk
- 1 ripe banana
- 1 tsp instant coffee/1 espresso shot
- 1 tbsp peanut butter
- 1 tbsp cocoa
- ¼ cup original Futurelife Smart Food
A Note On the Milk
I like normal milk, but that is of course my personal preference. You can try your milk of choice be it skim milk or a dairy alternative such as soy milk or coconut milk.
Frozen or Fresh Banana?
Some people swear by using only frozen bananas. Their reason is that it helps to make a creamy smoothie. It also makes the smoothie really cold and let’s face it, a hot smoothie is not the most glorious thing.
I don’t think it is the end of the world if you don’t freeze them, however, it does help to make your smoothie a bit colder.
Something else that you can do to ensure that your smoothie is cold is to make sure that your milk is really cold.
My Thoughts On the Coffee
I prefer instant coffee in my smoothie. I really like Nescafé Gold Alta Rica.
A shot of espresso will also work well. If you opt for that, just use 200ml milk instead of a cup.
You can also try regular brewed coffee, however, I prefer a more concentrated form of coffee to ensure that I get a strong coffee flavor without compromising the creamy consistency of my smoothie.
Peanut Butter Alternative
Because I am really into making healthy smoothies I looked a sugar-free peanut butter, which is great. I really recommend that you look for something like that at your local grocery store.
However, if you are not a fan of peanut butter, you can always substitute it with your favorite nut butter such as sunflower seed butter or almond butter.
If you want, you can, of course, just leave out the nut butter. However, I like to add it because of the healthy fats that it contains.
A Note On Cocoa
I love adding cocoa to my smoothies. The chocolate flavor is absolutely amazing and as a result, I crave chocolates less.
Adding cocoa seems like a win-win to me.
Futurelife Smart Food
I really like Futurelife Smart Food. Not only is it delicious, but it is also healthy.
It is high in dietary fiber, contains amino acids, and a crazy lot of vitamins and minerals just to name a few benefits of it.
As an added bonus you get gluten-free versions, which is great if you are gluten intolerant. There is also a sugar-free version.
Furthermore, it gives you a protein boost because it is a source of protein.
However, if you don’t like Futurelife Smart Food, you can always, for example, try your favorite protein shake.
Here are the steps for my banana coffee smoothie recipe:
- Add all the ingredients to a high-speed blender
- Blend everything together
- Serve it in a glass
You can also customize this smoothie to your heart’s content. Here are some great additions for you to try.
There are so many seeds that you can add to your smoothies. You don’t really taste it and it adds great nutritional value to this easy breakfast.
Some seeds that you can try include:
- chia seeds
- hemp seeds
- sunflower seeds
Quite often I actually also add blueberries to this smoothie. I feel that the blueberries just add to the gloriousness of this breakfast drink.
If you feel that you want to add more protein to your smoothie, why not add some protein powder? You might have to add some more milk or water, though.
Different Flavor Futurellife Smart Food
There are many different flavors for you to try. I like the original for this recipe, but I’m sure that the other flavors will be great too.
