Cozy Cinnamon Roll Latte Recipe: Easy Holiday Coffee Drink

If I hear “cinnamon” my mouth starts to water. I love cinnamon and this cinnamon roll latte does not disappoint. It is sweet and cozy and totally worth the extra calories.

Ingredients for a Cinnamon Roll Latte

  1. Ground coffee
  2. 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  3. 1 cup milk of choice
  4. 2 tsp sugar
  5. Ground cinnamon for sprinkling (optional)
  6. Whipped cream (optional)

What Coffee Should I Use?

When I am in the mood for a medium roast, I like using Starbucks’s Pike Place roast. For a dark roast, I can recommend Starbucks’s Caffè Verona.

Do I Need an Espresso Machine?

No, not at all. If you don’t have an espresso machine, you can use an AeroPress or Moka pot. Both of them make great espresso-like coffee.

If you also don’t have either of those, you can go for Nescafé’s instant espresso. It is also really good.

Can I Use Cinnamon Syrup?

You can substitute the sugar and ground cinnamon for a tablespoon of cinnamon syrup. This is a great idea for when you are using instant coffee instead of espresso.

What Kind of Milk is Best?

Whole milk helps to make a creamy coffee drink, but the whipped cream already makes this drink quite creamy. So, skim milk or low-fat milk will both also do the trick.

If you want, you can also play around with some non-dairy milk. Some examples of what you can try is almond milk, oat milk, or soy milk.

How to Froth the Milk Without a Steam Wand

If you don’t have a coffee machine with a steam wand, it is no problem. For this recipe you can actually just pop the milk into the microwave for a minute. If you are using whipped cream, that is.

If you prefer to froth the milk even though you are using whipped cream or if you are not using the cream, you can, of course, still froth it. Without a steam wand you can opt for a handheld milk frother, French press or mason jar.

Variations on a Cinnamon Roll Latte

If you want to spice up things, here are a few ideas for how you can customise this coffee drink.

Iced Cinnamon Roll Latte

You can easily make this drink into an iced coffee.

  1. Simply add coffee ice cubes (normal ones will water down your drink) to the espresso and syrup mixture
  2. Foam some milk, but don’t steam or heat it

Leave Out the Whipped Cream

Whipped cream is really tasty and gives your coffee drink a creamy edge. However, not everyone likes that. Also, it adds like 70 calories.

So, if you want, you can try it without the whipped cream. It is still really good.

Use More or Less Sugar

What I like about using sugar and ground cinnamon instead of cinnamon syrup is that it gives me the ability to make the drink less sweet without taking away some of the cinnamon flavor.

See, when you use cinnamon syrup and you decrease the amount of syrup, you not only make the drink less sweet, you also take away some of the thing that gives the drink the cinnamon flavor.

Now, if you want a sweeter or less sweet drink, you can simply use more or less sugar without losing out on the cinnamon flavor.
