Easy Caramel Mocha Latte Recipe: Including Salted One

When it comes to lattes I feel like your options for customisation are almost limitless. Caramel mocha lattes are just one of many coffee drinks proving this.

Unfortunately, you probably won’t find this drink in just any coffee shop.

Fortunately, you can make this delicious coffee drink at home. In this post, I’ll give you my caramel mocha recipe. But first, what is a mocha, and what is a latte?

What is a Latte?

A latte (the long name that we often are too lazy to use is a café latte) is an espresso-based drink. It contains, of course, espresso as well as steamed milk with a thin layer of foam.

What is a Mocha?

Mochas are also referred to as mocha lattes, but usually, we tend to take the shortcut and just call it a mocha.

This drink is basically a normal latte with chocolate syrup/sauce added.

The following ingredients are what you will be needing to make this caramel mocha latte right from the comfort of your home.

1. 1 Espresso Shot

I really like Starbucks’s Pike Place roast, but any high-quality medium or dark roast will do.

Also, you don’t have to stick to one shot of espresso, you can always increase the amount of espresso shots that you add to increase the coffee taste.

If you do not have an espresso machine, do not sweat. You can always use a Moka pot or AeroPress to make your coffee. For best results, I do not recommend using a French press for this drink. The reason is that French press coffee is not as concentrated as espresso, so the taste will be influenced greatly.

In fact, I would rather recommend Nescafé Gold Instant Espresso. I know that there are a lot of opinions around instant coffee, but Nescafé is actually worth a shot.

2. 1 Cup Milk of Choice

Whole milk steams the best which is why I always stick to it. However, especially with this drink the kind of milk doesn’t matter quite that much. The reason is that you will be adding whipped cream on top of the drink. So, you technically don’t even have to froth the milk, but I do like to froth it. Just be sure to use hot milk.

You can also substitute dairy milk for plant-based milk such as almond milk, oat milk, or coconut milk.

3. ½ a Tablespoon of Mocha Syrup and ½ a Tablespoon of Caramel Syrup

I like to mix the chocolate syrup (mocha syrup) and caramel syrup in equal amounts, but you don’t have to. You can experiment with the ingredient amounts to your heart’s content.

The total amount of syrup also doesn’t have to be one tablespoon. I always recommend one tablespoon of syrup for each 8oz of coffee, but that is up to you.

Also, I use homemade caramel sauce and mocha sauce, but you are more than welcome to buy some.

4. Whipped Cream (Optional)

You can buy heavy cream and make homemade whipped cream, however, I usually just stick to the canned whipped cream.

5. Cocoa Powder to Sprinkle Over

This one is up to you if you want to add it, but I like making my drinks pretty and this is exactly the goal of the cocoa powder.

6. Extra Caramel Sauce to Drizzle Over (Optional)

Adding a drizzle of caramel sauce/syrup over your drink is, again, totally optional, but I really like adding it.

Simple Steps for an Easy Caramel Mocha Latte

Here are the steps to make a caramel mocha latte using the simple ingredients above:

  1. Pull a shot of espresso.
  2. Mix the espresso, caramel syrup, and mocha syrup together.
  3. Froth the milk using your preferred method like a milk frother or steam wand.
  4. Pour the milk over the espresso and syrup mix.
  5. Add whipped cream.
  6. Sprinkle over some cocoa powder.
  7. Top with a caramel drizzle.

Delicious Caramel Mocha Latte Variations

Like always, the recipe I give you can be adapted to find your perfect drink. Here are a few ways how you can change this already delicious latte.

Salted Caramel Mocha Latte

This variation is probably my favorite of all the variations.

You can either swap out the normal caramel sauce for salted caramel sauce or add a pinch of salt to your caramel and mocha syrup mix.

To make an even more delicious salted caramel mocha latte, you can top it off with some sea salt. It will also make your drink a bit prettier.

Vanilla Caramel Mocha Latte

Something else that you can try is to add ½ a tablespoon of vanilla syrup to the caramel syrup and chocolate sauce. This will, of course, make your drink a bit sweeter, but it is absolutely to die for.

Dark Chocolate Topping

You can also substitute the cocoa powder for dark chocolate chips or shavings to take your drink to the next level.

Iced Caramel Mocha Latte

The iced version of this hot drink is perfect for when you are stuck in the summer heat. Simply add some coffee ice cubes to the espresso and syrup mix.

Also, you’ll, of course, have to use cold milk instead of warm milk, but that’s it.

Additionally, you can add a little salt and make it an iced salted caramel mocha latte.
